I know, I know.

Being on hiatus was not supposed to last as long as it did, but between the wedding, moving, summer courses, the honeymoon, getting into the swing of the fall semester and Book-Addicts…

…well, something had to give, and unfortunately, that was YP.

The etsy store is still closed, and will probably remain that way until further notice. The goal is to have it back up by January, but I won’t make any promises. School’s been very busy and next semester promises to be a doozy (it’s my last semester, so I’ll be very busy).

For the non-knitty people out there, I am still knitting commissions, however, if you’re planning on asking me to knit you some Christmas gifts, it’s too late. Christmas is just around the corner, and I’ve got my own Christmas knitting to finish along with some commissioned projects I’ve already agreed to.

Sorry, but you know. That’s how it goes.

For every one else, the YP blog will be updated every Wednesday. Originally, I wanted to update it with the frequency of my other blog, which is twice a week, but as of now, I can’t commit to that. So, once a week it is.

Next Wednesday I’ll be talking about Christmas knitting: how to prepare for it and what projects are good for last-minute knitting.

Btw, is anyone crazy enough to participate in NaKnitMo? There’s a challenge on Ravelry for the knitters who don’t participate in NaNoWriMo.

NaKnitMo challenges knitters to 30,000 stitches in the month of November. I’d love to do it, but I’m committed to attempting two novels during NaNoWriMo.

Starting with Geek Pride Day.

Since 2006, celebrating geeks and nerds everywhere, Geek Pride Day intentionally coincides with the anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars movie in 1977.
Today is not to be confused with Star Wars Day, which is held on May 4 due to popular pun, “May the fourth be with you.”
Carissa Browning designed a free knitting pattern for an R2D2 Beanie. Knit with less than 200 yards of worsted weight yarn, this project is perfect for letting your geek flag fly.

And if the beanie doesn’t have enough geek knitted into it, Browning has also included a pattern to knit the projecting probes.
The knitted probes of course are optional, but if you’re going to knit an R2D2 beanie, how could you not knit them?

Of course, Ravelry is filled with other geek knitting patterns that include Yoda’s ears, light sabers and even the famous Princess Leia buns (the ones on her head).

Thanks to an online video by Lucy Neatby, French Press Knits’ slippers are now even easier to knit. The video shows an interesting knitting technique known as Navajo Knitting.

Navajo Knitting is a simple technique that takes one strand of yarn and turns it into three. Through the simple combination of a slip knot and a single crochet chain, Navajo Knitting increases the thickness of your knitting. This method eliminates the need to separate one or two skeins of yarn into three or more.

The practice of Navajo Knitting is definitely a useful skill to add to your knitting technique arsenal.
